In addition to the existing Azure and AWS solutions available to Navy and Marine Corps customers, the Neptune CMO recently announced authority to operate (ATO) approval for their Flank Speed (FS) Impact Level 5 (IL5) GitHub Service and FS Azure Impact Level 6 (IL6) Tenant. These are both part of Neptune CMO’s continuous efforts to innovate and optimize naval cloud services for all DON customers. Together these solutions increase the Department’s ability to provide access to critical data, collaborate across geographies, and save money and time through enhanced business operations.
Neptune CMO Director John Mithun said, “These cloud computing capabilities provide Navy and Marine Corps mission owners with stronger tools in Flank Speed to collaborate across the Navy and Marine Corps and support systems modernization efforts; as well as expand Enterprise Secret Internet Protocol Router Network (SIPRNet) classified data capabilities. We are bringing capability to our customers that addresses their needs at the speed of mission.”
The FS IL5 GitHub Service is a repository for Infrastructure as Code (IaC) needed to provision mission owner environments. It also provides security controls and governance necessary for mission owners to build their environments once provisioned. The IL5 GitHub Service provides a single code repository to share code and best practice across the Navy. It is the first accredited IL5 cloud development-to-production Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipeline in the Navy allowing mission owners to develop and deploy their solutions. The service also:
FS Azure IL6 leverages the Azure Government Secret offering, which is the first classified cloud service offering to maintain an IL6 DoD provisional authorization at the high confidentiality, high integrity, and customer-determined availability (H-H-x) information categorization. It provides direct connection to the DoD SIPRNet for cleared, U.S. citizen operators. For mission owners, FS Azure IL6 delivers fast access to sensitive, mission-critical information while maintaining the security and integrity of classified workloads. Because it is SIPRNet connected, FS Azure IL6 is a closed self-contained environment for processing, storage and management planes connected only to SIPRNet. It is available from three accredited regions around the world to support demanding business continuity and disaster recovery requirements.
“The Flank Speed Azure IL6 is an ecosystem that brings together over 300 Azure services to seamlessly mesh with commonly used tools, providing an intuitive, integrated and secure space for our Sailors and Marines around the world. Understanding there will be nuances, the end game is to have the IL6 environment mirror the capabilities in IL5,” said Kory Bennett, product owner for Azure IL5/6.
Building on these successes, Neptune is planning similar capability developments and upgrades to the USMC Azure environment in support of Headquarters Marine Corps initiative, Integrated Mission Data Fabric (IMDF).
The Neptune Cloud Management Office (CMO), the DON’s designated cloud service management organization, is responsible for providing DON customers seeking cloud computing capabilities visibility of and access to the various cloud services across both the DON and Department of Defense (DOD) to support their cloud transformation efforts. It is the single source for acquisition and delivery of cloud services across the Navy and Marine Corps and is moving customers to the cloud faster, at lower cost, and with more options than ever before.
