This December, a significant technological wave will sweep across the Navy as users bid farewell to Microsoft Office 2016 and welcome the subscription-based Microsoft Office 365 (M365) suite.
This December, a significant technological wave will sweep across the Navy as users bid farewell to Microsoft Office 2016 and welcome the subscription-based Microsoft Office 365 (M365) suite. This transition isn't just a routine software upgrade – it symbolizes a departure from static versions to a more timeless model, integrating eight years' worth of features.

The scale of this transformation is noteworthy, with an estimated 250,000 to 300,000 users gaining access to the upgrade, highlighting its significance and its potential improvement to the user experience. The upgrade, which became available Dec. 8, gives users the flexibility to initiate the installation at their convenience. The self-initiated installation approach ensures minimal disruption to daily operations and allows users to seamlessly transition to the new platform whenever it suits them.

The objective is clear – to foster a modern environment within Navy applications while maintaining robust security. One catalyst for this upgrade is the desire for heightened integration with files and the Navy's Flank Speed environment. M365 brings cloud benefits through OneDrive and SharePoint, freeing users from the limitations of individual computers and allowing access to files from anywhere by logging into their Flank Speed accounts.

This upgrade provides a host of benefits for end users, promising enhanced collaboration features, freedom from outdated software constraints, the ability to work offline with seamless synchronization and fortified security capabilities. The shift aims to significantly improve user experience and streamline productivity within Navy operations.

As the Navy sets sail into this technological transition, the move to M365 signifies more than just a software upgrade – it is a leap into a future where productivity, collaboration and user experience are seamlessly integrated, fostering a more connected and efficient Navy. More information about the upgrade, including who has access and how to initiate it is available on the Flank Speed Hub.
